Date Selection – Is 11-11-11 really a good date for marriage?

Introduction

A lot of people are getting married on 11th November 2011, thinking that it is a good date. Does it? What significant is that date from the Chinese Meta-Physics point of view? Let’s find out.
Before that, here is some information I got from the Internet:
Using 2 digits:

11 x 11 = 121

6 digits:

111111 x 111111 = 12345654321

By the way, there is a movie coming out with the same title: 11-11-11, The End is Now written and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who also directed Saw II, III & IV.  Sounds like a scary movie to me!

The 4-Pillars or 8-characters bazi chart for 11th Nov 2011 11am looks like this:

What does it really mean? Not much, actually… It looks like a good date to get marriage for female but not male. But then, you need one male and one female to get married, unless it is a same sex marriage which is totally different thing altogether…;-)

San He Date Selection

Using the 十二值神 (12-Officers) method, 11th Nov 2011 is a 危 (wēi - Danger) day.  As the name imply, it is best to avoid marriage on Danger day and only good for religious worship or groundbreaking.

However, according to Dong Gong, this day is auspicious because it is a Geng Wu day and there is a good heavenly star coming to combine with Geng, hence make it an auspicious day to get married. 

But then, using the 二十八宿 (28-constellations) method, it is a 牛(Niu Ox) day. For those who read the fairy tales of the cowherd and the weaver girl before, the Niu star is referring to the cowherd star. The cowherd and the weaver girl (who was a fairy from heaven) were separated and can only meet once a year during seventh day of the seventh lunar month. So, it is a sad story. As such, it is not an auspicious date to get married. (You wouldn’t want to end up like cowherd and weaver girl, separated for whole year and can only meet once a year)

奇门遁甲 (Qi Men Dun Jia) Date Selection

There are 2 methods in Qi Men Dun Jia date selection. One method is called 拆布 (Chāi Bù) and another is called 直闰 (Zhí Rùn). Usually, you will get the same results based on both methods. However, for 11th Nov 2011, you got 2 different charts and 2 different results.

拆布 (Chāi Bù) method

Using Chai Bu method, the Ju is Yin Dun #9 and the chart as follow:

YinDun#9 Hour: RenWu ; 直符(ZhíFú): 天任 (Tiān Rèn) ;
直使(ZhíShǐ): 生门 (Shēng Mén) ; 旬首(XúnShǒu): JiaXuJi

Marriage 用神 (Useful God - yòng shén) is 六合 (Liù Hé) at Zhen 3 Palace with 开门 (Kāi Mén) and 天柱 (Tiān Zhù). Here are the attributes of Zhen 3 Palace:

• Geng+Ding:亭亭之格 - (Upright structure - tíng tíng zhī gé). If with auspicious Mén (Door), it may be fine. If with inauspicious Mén (Door), it may be bad.
• Zhen3+开门 (Kāi Mén):Suitable to meet nobleman, opening ceremony, smuggling, any things that need changes.
• 开门 (Kāi Mén)+Geng:Road to lawsuit, plan is being divided.
• 开门 (Kāi Mén)+Ding:Trust the far.
• 开门 (Kāi Mén)+天柱 (Tiān Zhù):Has bravery and good plan, determined to move forward. Very auspicious.
• 奇格 (qí gé)-There is thief/robber.

In addition, Male is represented by Geng at Zhen 3 Palace also. The female is represented by Yi at Li 9 Palace. Li 9 Palace is Fire and Zhen 3 Palace is Wood – in given birth situation according to 5-element (Wood give birth to Fire), hence it is auspicious.

However, this is a Fan Yin chart. That’s will mean that there will be a lot of uncertainty and matters might change in near future, including marriage. So, it is not an auspicious date anymore.

直闰 (Zhí Rùn) Method

Using Zhi Run method, the Ju is Yin Dun #7 and the chart as follow:

YinDun#7 Hour: RenWu ; 直符(ZhíFú): 天心 (Tiān Xīn) ;
直使(ZhíShǐ): 开门 (Kāi Mén) ; 旬首(XúnShǒu): JiaXuJi

Marriage 用神 (Useful God - yòng shén) is 六合 (Liù Hé) at Qian 6 Palace with 天英 (Tiān Yīng) and 休门 (Xiū Mén). The attributes of Qian 6 is as follow:

• Bing+Ji:火悖入刑 - (Fire being punished - huǒ bèi rù xíng). If this combination is with auspicious Mén (Door), it will be auspicious. If this combination is with inauspicious Mén (Door), it will be inauspicious.
• Qian6+休门 (Xiū Mén):Seeing nobleman. It is auspicious to open shop and good for trading.
• 休门 (Xiū Mén)+Bing:Joyous occation.
• 休门 (Xiū Mén)+Ji:Cannot be hidden.
• 休门 (Xiū Mén)+天英 (Tiān Yīng):Move forward 1 inch but move backward 1 foot. Accomplish nothing. A bit inauspicious.
• 三诈 (sān zhà)-very auspicious for all matters especially business trading, travelling or marriage.
• 三奇之灵 (San Qi Intelligence - sān qí zhī ling)-Very auspicious, suitable for all matters.
• 三奇入墓 (San Qi enter tomb - sān qí rù mù)-Not suitable for anything. All plans are on hold.This has an image of standstill

From the above analysis, it looks like auspicious. However, Male is represented by Geng at Kan 1 Palace. The female is represented by Yi at Li 9 Palace. Li 9 Palace is Fire and Kan 1 Palace is Water – in conflict situation according to 5-element hence it is inauspicious.

It is a good or bad date for marriage?

After looking at various systems, it still boils down to finding the answer: it is a good date or bad date to get married. 12-Officers method said it is no good, Dong Gong said it is auspicious, 28-constellations method said it is no good. Qi Men Dun Jia said it is auspicious as well as inauspicious.

Who said date selection is easy?  

It all depends on individual and whether you want to make it work. In the end, your determination is the most important. Good date will help to enhance your determination. Choosing an excellent date does not guarantee good marriage; however having a good date will helps to make a marriage work if you determine to make it work in the first place.

So, is the date good for marriage? It’s depends. This is because we have not taken into consideration of the couple bazi (i.e. birth chart and luck cycle).
